ColorVeil Version 4.1 was released on September 30, 2026.
This update is made for Windows 11 and Windows 10. It is safer to download, simpler to install and update on one PC or across a whole school or workplace, and gentler on the eyes from the first start. It installs over version 4.0 and keeps your settings.
Up to date with Windows
- Made for Windows 11 and Windows 10. ColorVeil now runs on .NET Framework 4.8, the current version of this Windows component, which Microsoft keeps secure and up to date through Windows Update.
- Nothing extra to install. .NET Framework 4.8 is already part of Windows 11 and of Windows 10 (version 1903 and later), so ColorVeil is ready to run as soon as it is installed.
Safer to download and install
- Digitally signed. ColorVeil, its installers, and the portable version are now digitally signed. Windows shows East-Tec as the verified publisher when you install, and the signature confirms that your download is genuine and unchanged.
- Ready for workplaces and schools. Organizations that allow only signed software on their PCs can now approve ColorVeil.
- Downloads you can check. Each download has its version number in the file name, and a checksum file is published with the downloads so you can verify them.
Easier to install, update, and remove
- A Start Menu shortcut for everyone. On a shared PC, every user now finds ColorVeil in the Start Menu, not only the person who installed it. This also fixes the missing shortcut when an administrator or a deployment tool installs ColorVeil for other people.
- Updates that finish properly. If ColorVeil is running when you update it, the setup program now closes it first and then installs the new version. Before, an update could leave the old version in place.
- A cleaner removal. Uninstalling works the same way: ColorVeil is closed first and then removed, even if it is running.
- MSI upgrades in place. For IT administrators: the MSI package now upgrades an existing installation directly, so a new version can be deployed over the old one. Before, the old version had to be uninstalled first. The MSI package also checks that .NET Framework 4.8 is present before it installs.
- One MSI package. A single 64-bit MSI package replaces the separate 32-bit and 64-bit packages, and it upgrades both.
Easier on the eyes
- A lighter veil from the first start. A new installation now starts with the veil at 40% opacity: a gentle tint that is clearly visible and keeps text easy to read. You can change the opacity at any time in Settings.
- Your own settings stay as they are. If you already use ColorVeil, the update keeps the color and the opacity you chose.
Upgrading from version 4.0
You can install 4.1 over 4.0. Your color, opacity, and other settings are kept. For a smooth upgrade:
- Quit ColorVeil first. Open Settings and click "Quit ColorVeil" before you start the update. If the setup program has to close ColorVeil itself, the settings you changed since ColorVeil last started are not saved.
- Use the same kind of installer as before. If you installed 4.0 with the setup program (EXE), upgrade with the setup program; if you used the MSI package, upgrade with the MSI package. To switch, uninstall 4.0 first. Otherwise, Windows lists ColorVeil twice among the installed apps.
- Check the startup option after an MSI upgrade. Upgrading with the MSI package turns off "Start ColorVeil on system startup". Turn it on again in Settings > General.
