Can east-tec DisposeSecure provide a detailed report of the sanitization process?

Yes, east-tec DisposeSecure provides an option for generating a log (report) file of the sanitizing process. DisposeSecure can generate a sanitizing log (report) for each drive that is sanitized.

Moreover, if sanitizing from the network, the log files will be generated and sent over the network to the computer (server) where east-tec DisposeSecure is installed. The log will contain information about the drive, the time and date of sanitizing, any errors that occur while sanitizing, etc.

There is also an option for generating US Department of Defense log files. In this case, east-tec DisposeSecure will also log extra information required by U.S. Department of Defense standards. The log file will also contain the exact contents of any sector that could not be sanitized.

Can east-tec Eraser generate a log file?

A log file offers information about certain events, such as the wipe process. This log file can store data about the files and folders you wiped, when they were wiped and the status of the process. This is useful in case you want to have an evidence of what has been wiped, or just for debugging purposes.

To generate a log file, please open follow the steps below:

  1. Open east-tec Eraser
  2. Go to the Erase menu and click Erase Options
  3. Go to the Preferences page
  4. Check “User Log file” and “Append to existing log file”
  5. Uncheck “Log errors only”
  6. Click OK
  7. Perform the wiping operations you want to record in the log file
  8. If you didn’t change the location of the log file, this is usually saved in this folder: “C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\East-Tec\east-tec Eraser\eraser.log”

Log File Information

When running from a local network, east-tec DisposeSecure has the ability to log information about the drive, the time and date of sanitizing, any errors that occur while sanitizing, etc. More, when sanitizing from the network, the log files renaming utility included in east-tec DisposeSecure allows you to rename the log files for each machine, using your own preferences. You have four criteria to choose from:

  • MAC Address
  • IP Address
  • First Hard Disk Serial Number
  • Chassis Number

When booting from a bootable disc, east-tec DisposeSecure has the ability to log extra information required by U.S. Dep. of Defense standards (such as the name of the person performing the sanitizing), it will also contain the exact contents of any sector that could not be sanitized. This helps the user determine if the data that remained on disk is too sensitive to permit the release of the media.

When erasing removable drives or local non-system partitions from the DisposeSecure Windows module, the program will generate a wipe report file for each drive that is wiped. The log file will contain information about the drive, the time and date of the wiping, any errors that occur while wiping, etc. The user can choose the name and the place where the report file will be generated.
