How to create an encrypted Safe and hide your confidential files in it?

Welcome to the tutorial on how to create an encrypted Safe to protect and hide your confidential documents, emails, photos, videos, etc from unwanted people.

To create a new safe, please follow these steps:

1. If you haven’t yet, please download east-tec SafeBit.

Run the software and select the action: New Safe or Create a New Safe?

2. The next step is to name your Safe and set a password for it.

Note: This password will protect your encrypted Safe from unauthorized access so please make sure you don’t lose it! And unless you know your password, even you won’t be able to open your Safe!

3. Choose the location, size and letter referring to the Safe. Click Next when done.

The underlined box on the screenshot below lets you decide where you want your Safe to be located on your computer (click the folder icon to change the default location). If you are going to store large files, or many smaller files in it, increase its size in the circled box under the location box. And set the letter you want your Safe to be associated with in Windows Explorer when the Safe is open (when it’s closed, Windows Explorer hides it from its directories).

4. Click Next and you are done, the safe is created.

5. Click Finish to return to the main menu.

6. Now it’s time to move your confidential files into the Safe. Double click to open it so you can drag and drop files/folders into it. You’ll be prompted for the Safe password. Enter it and click OK.

7. Windows Explorer locates the open Safe

8. Let’s start moving confidential files/folders into it with the usual drag and drop.

First, let’s open two instances of Windows Explorer so that’ll be very easy to drag and drop files/folders into the Safe. As you can see, the left hand side window shows your libraries and the and the right hand side window is your Safe.

9. Drag and drop the files/folders you want to protect in the Safe

When done adding files/folders, close the Windows Explorer windows. This is essential because if you attempt to close the Safe while the Windows Explorer windows are still open, east-tec SafeBit will send you a warning message that the files in the Safe might still be in use. Once you closed the Windows Explorer windows, close the Safe, too.

Now you can relax, knowing that your confidential files are protected with government-grade encryption and hidden from prying eyes.

How to add new algorithms

In the Algorithms tab you can set options regarding the encryption algorithms, install new algorithms etc.

  • Add Algorithm – click the “Add Algorithm” button to add a new algorithm. You will have to provide the algorithm’s name, library, and the activation key.
  • Edit Properties – click the “Edit Properties” button to edit the properties of the selected algorithm: the name, the library and the activation key.
  • Remove – click the “Remove” button to remove the selected algorithm from the list of algorithms.
  • Up/Down – use these buttons to set the position of the algorithms in the list.
  • Algorithm Library – specifies the full path of the selected algorithms’ library.
  • Activation Key – specifies the activation key for the current algorithm library.
  • Generate Activation Key – click this button to generate a new activation key for the selected algorithm.

How to install your own encryption algorithm

To install a new algorithm follow these steps:

  1. Open the Options Dialog Box
  2. Choose the Algorithms page
  3. Click the Add algorithm button
  4. Fill the edit boxes with: a name for the new algorithm, a library file name (.DLL), and an activation key
  5. Click Ok
