Stephen LaPlante has been blessed with a unique and rewarding software development career. He has worked extensively in the Automotive Robotic Engineering field writing CAD Simulation and Offline Programming software for companies like General Motors, Ford and Chrysler. He has been a customer of our east-tec Eraser product since 2010. His advice to us: Share the word about this awesome product with your friends. Everybody needs this software on their computer.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Stephen LaPlante, I'm 51, and I live in the United States.

What can you tell us about your professional experience?

I have a rather varied Professional experience so I've included the high level details below.

  • 1989 - 1995: Biomedical Technician (Maintain and repair a medical device product line of over 1000 products).
  • 1995 - 1998: CAD Simulation Engineer (Robotic Automotive assembly processes developed on a computer and then downloaded to robots in the Automotive plants)
  • 1998 - 2005: Robotics Engineering - Develop Bi-Directional Cad simulation to Industrial Robot translation software for General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Corporation.
  • 1998 - 2012: Robotics Software Developer and Web Developer (C, SQL, C#, ASP.NET, Ajax, JQuery, JavaScript). Developed software to interface with Robots for a large medical product de-palletizing, irradiation and re-palletizing process. Also developed robotic interfacing software for a large Mold Injection corproation.

Transitioned from the automotive industry to the computer IT industry focused primarily on Online Education.

Since when have you been using our product?

Since 2010.

How often do you use east-tec Eraser? Every day? Twice a week, etc?

Risk Monitor is always running and I perform the suggested tasks when prompted.

From your point of view, what is the greatest feature of east-tec Eraser?

It is difficult to pick just one feature but if I had to it would be either the Risk Monitor or the ability to choose the level of security to use for Erasing operations.

I like being able to use the faster Erasing options for personal data that isn't particularly sensitive. When I delete financial information, I prefer to use the DOD level erasure mode.

What is the feature you are using more often? And less often?

I use Privacy Guard, Erase Deleted Data and the Risk Monitor regularly.

I have only used the "Entire Drive Wiper" once when I had to ship a defective drive back to a hard drive manufacturer.

Do you consider east-tec Eraser intuitive?

Yes. I also like the helpful tips you provide which help me decide what options to turn on and off for erasing properties. That allows me to benefit from your experience and knowledge of security software features without having to fully understand the technical concepts behind them.

What can you tell to those people who are not using east-tec Eraser at this moment?

Be afraid - Very afraid. Especially if you don't password protect your computer. In this day and age of computer hackers with a lot of time on their hands, your computer is a target - if they gain access to your computer, you'll wish you would have truly deleted sensitive data off your computer.

Is there any message you would like to send to other east-tec Eraser users?

Share the word about this awesome product with your friends. Everybody needs this software on their computer.

Are you satisfied by our services?

Absolutely, your tech support is responsive, professional and fast.

What other (security) solutions would you like us to offer you?

I would like to see you offer a file encryption and file hiding application. The best defense against a hacker is to hide your sensitive information from them - evasion is the best policy. Let someone else wear a target on their back - I'd rather be invisible or not interesting to them instead. With your knowledge and experience of security software, this type of product seems like a perfect fit for your customer base. I would think that people who care enough to ensure what they delete is really deleted, would also like to hide those things that are sensitive on their computer from anyone that may gain access to it.

I already have trusted applications for the tasks you listed above. There aren't many companies out there that provide the level of security, options and quality of Eraser Tech so I think that should remain your primary focus (security related software). I have always believed it's better for a company to focus on what they do well than to branch out into too many directions. However, if you were to release any of the products mentioned above, I would probably try them as I've come to trust your company over the last couple of years.

I'm very happy with Microsoft Security Essentials for Firewall, Spyware and Anti-virus. With a great product like that being absolutely free, I think it would be difficult for you to compete with them and make it profitable. I must admit that I've never really found a Registry Cleaner that I felt was very effective. I feel the same way about "System Optimizers" - I've never found one that really made any difference in performance. Maybe my hardware is just too fast (Windows 7.4 Rating).
